GUE FUNDAMENTALS

GUE FUNDAMENTALS

“Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise”

GUE Fundamentals is the federation’s most popular training program and serves as a gateway into GUE training. The course cultivates basic dive skills and knowledge to help divers build a solid platform based on balance, trim, buoyancy and propulsion techniques.

It will help you improve your skills, regardless of your certification or experience level. The GUE Fundamentals training provides a wide opportunity for divers who want to enjoy shallow reef diving as well as divers who pursue more advanced diving such as technical, CCR, or deep cave penetration.

Most divers who take the course, even those with extensive diving experience, walk away with a completely new approach to diving. Depending on your dive goals and experience, outlined below are 3 different foundational paths to explore.

GUE Performance Diver

Build a Solid Foundation

GUE’s Performance Diver is the newest gateway course into GUE training and is perfect for newly certified or recreational divers who want to increase their comfort and competence underwater. This course will supplement training you have already received and will give you more confidence in your basic skills, even if you do not desire to pursue more advanced training.

Students will be introduced to GUE concepts including:

  • standardized equipment configuration
  • standardized procedures
  • theory and use of nitrox
  • using a team-oriented approach to maximize safety, efficiency, and fun
  • developing a solid diving platform based on balance, trim, buoyancy, and propulsion techniques (including backward kick)

This course is just the start and will show you a completely different approach to diving. Upon successful completion of the course, GUE Performance Divers are eligible to join a variety of GUE recreational courses and primers and can upgrade their skills further with Fundamentals training.

GUE Basic Fundamentals

Dive with Confidence

The GUE Basic Fundamentals is GUE’s most popular program. It is for any diver seeking to advance their foundational diving skills, improve upon (often less-than-ideal) training they received during more traditional entry-level courses, and enter the world of GUE diving.

Course outcomes include:

  • GUE equipment configuration and use
  • trim and buoyancy
  • propulsion techniques including backwards kick
  • valve management (can be conducted on single or double tanks)
  • gas sharing
  • SMB deployment
  • plus more

Everybody will benefit, regardless of their current level of certification. Most divers who complete the course, even those with extensive diving experience, admit it is an eye opening experience and their diving had changed forever.

The Basic Fundamentals is also a gateway for other recreational GUE courses, such as the Navigation, Rescue, and Deep Primers, Scientific Diver, DPV 1, and more.

GUE global Underwater Explorers

Duration: 3 days, 6 dives

Maximum Depth: 18m during course

Class Size: max. 3 students

Recommended For:

  • divers with limited experience looking to improve trim, buoyancy, propulsion techniques, and other basic skills
  • recreational divers who want to become a better, safer and more team-oriented diver but have no interest in technical diving
  • divers eventually looking to move to more advanced forms of diving like tech, cave, or CCR, but need more time to achieve the required level of skill mastery
  • divers interested in GUE’s training methodology
  • divers interested in GUE recreational classes like DPV 1, Photogrammetry, Scientific Diver, etc

Applicants for the GUE Basic Fundamentals must:

  • be a certified diver
  • 14+ years old
  • non-smoker
  • be able to swim
  • if using doubles during the course, have conducted at least 15 non-training dives in the GUE double tank configuration or hold a GUE Doubles Primer cert
  • if using a drysuit during the course, have conducted at least 15 non-training dives in a drysuit or hold a GUE Drysuit Primer cert

All dive training will take place directly in the sea in one of our protected bays at Lighthouse and/or Mashraba.

GUE Technical Fundamentals

Pave the Way for Tec, Cave, or CCR Diving

The GUE Technical Fundamentals is for experienced divers who are pursing a high level of proficiency in preparation for GUE technical, rebreather, or cave training.

A strong diving foundation relies on balance, trim, buoyancy, and propulsion techniques; attempting more advanced training before mastering these can result in increased task loading, stress, and poorly developed skills. Divers will then find it difficult to contribute effectively to a team and often lack the necessary situational awareness required for advanced technical training.

This course can only be done using double tanks and outcomes include:

  • GUE equipment configuration and use
  • trim, buoyancy, and propulsion techniques including backwards kick
  • valve management
  • gas sharing
  • backup light deployment
  • basic rescue introduction
  • SMB deployment and ascent training to prepare you for technical training

The GUE Tech Fundamentals class is a prerequisite to enter more advanced GUE training such as CCR diving and OC Technical training.

GUE global Underwater Explorers

Duration: 4 days, 8 dives

Maximum Depth: 30m

Class Size: max. 3 students

Recommended For:

  • divers who want to undertake cave, tech, or CCR training and are ready to bring their diving skills to a more advanced level
  • experienced cave/tech divers trained by a different agency who
want to learn GUE’s way of diving
  • GUE-trained divers who consider themselves ready for more challenging dives

Applicants for the GUE Tech Fundamentals must:

  • be certified to dive to 30m
  • 16+ years old
  • non-smoker
  • be able to swim
  • have conducted at least 75 non-training dives. 25 of these must have been at a depth of 70 ft/21 m+
  • have conducted at least 25 non-training dives in a double tank configuration or have conducted 15 non-training dives utilizing doubles following completion of GUE Doubles Primer cert
  • if using a drysuit during the course, have conducted at least 15 non-training dives in a drysuit or have conducted 10 non-training dives utilizing a drysuit following completion of GUE Drysuit Primer cert
