There’s the Red Sea most people see from a day-boat—and then there’s the Red Sea you get to experience alongside a crew of relentless expedition divers. We just wrapped up an extraordinary 12-day safari hosting Dirty Dozen Expeditions aboard our expedition vessel Marselia Star, running a high-octane itinerary that stretched all the way from Hurghada up to Dahab and back.

The Crew on Board

From sunrise on day one, the dive deck was buzzing with high energy, heavy gear, and serious passion:

  • 14 CCR rebreather divers
  • 3 open-circuit tech divers
  • 3 recreational divers

All sharing stories, swapping gas plans, and prepping for some of the best diving on the planet.

Legendary Wrecks & Silent Night Dives

Taking on a long-range route meant we didn’t have to rush. We could truly settle in at each site and soak up both historic wreck heritage and deep technical drop-offs.

Wreck Exploration (Rosalie Moller, Thistlegorm, & Gulf Fleet No. 31): On our way up and back down, we spent quality time on the region’s premier historic wrecks. Staying overnight at the SS Thistlegorm was sheer magic—with the daytime crowds long gone, descending into quiet holds surrounded by vintage motorbikes, armored vehicles, and locomotive parts felt like stepping back in time. On the return stretch, exploring the Rosalie Moller and the wreck of Gulf Fleet No. 31 delivered world-class wreck diving at its absolute finest.

Taming the Straits of Tiran: Nature made sure to keep us on our toes as we pushed north. The Straits greeted us with wild surface chop and intense, whipping currents. But with tight planning, sharp safety protocols, and a crew that knows these waters inside out, every single diver nailed their entries and enjoyed front-row seats to Tiran’s vibrant, current-fed reefs.

Dahab: Tiger Reef, Abu Talha, and the Deep Blue Hole

Reaching Dahab from the water opened up rare, breathtaking views of a coastline many of us usually only see from shore.

The team logged incredible dives across North Dahab’s prime sites, hitting Tiger Reef and Abu Talha, as well as precision technical dives through the iconic Arch and the deep floor of the Blue Hole. Nights were spent anchored in the serene waters off Dahab and Gabr El Bint, soaking up the silence under starry desert skies far from the crowds.

A Personal Note from the Crew

For those of us who call Dahab home, this leg of the journey was pretty emotional. After making the long land drive to Hurghada to join the vessel a week earlier, sailing back into Dahab from the open ocean was surreal. Watching our home town rise up out of the coastline from the deck of our vessel is a memory that will stick with us forever.

Spending two dedicated days diving our home turf—from Tiger Reef down to the depths of the Blue Hole directly from our liveaboard—showing off these reefs to an international group of elite technical divers was an absolute privilege and the highlight of the trip.

Built for the Technical Diver

A massive thank you to every diver who brought their A-game, grit, and laughter on board, and to the tireless liveaboard crew who kept everything running like clockwork behind the scenes.
