CLOSED-CIRCUIT REBREATHERS

Diving on a CCR

Closed-Circuit Rebreathers (CCR) are created around a simple principle of a one-way breathing loop. One hose takes the gas exhaled by the diver to a CO2 scrubber, and another brings it back filtered, refreshed and recycled to the diver’s mouth.

Rebreathers have been used for a long time by military and scientific divers, but more and more divers are making the switch and joining the CCR ranks. Recreationally, it is increasingly popular among underwater photographers and videographers because of the (literally silent) benefits of up close and personal marine life interaction; while in technical diving circles, the CCR’s reputation of efficiency and safety when preparing extended range dives, holds mass appeals for Tec divers.

What is a Rebreather?

In traditional open-circuit scuba, your body uses the oxygen you inhale and releases the exhaled carbon dioxide into the water. Whereas a closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) recycles the breathing gas instead – resulting in longer dive times, reduced gas consumption, and quieter underwater operation.

CCR COURSES AT SCUBA SEEKERS

Scuba Seekers is a CCR-friendly dive center and we are proud to be pioneers in rebreather training in Dahab – offering CCR courses from 0 – 100m+ on a variety of units including the JJ-CCR, rEvo, and Divesoft Liberty (Sidemount and Backmount).

No matter how experienced or confident you are on open-circuit, with a rebreather you are starting over again. Rebreathers are far more complex units than conventional scuba tanks, which makes them more difficult to use and requires a greater level of skill, attention, and situational awareness from the diver.

When you join a course at Scuba Seekers, you will have the highest quality training possible while ensuring that the training pace and environment suits each student’s individual needs.
