Enhance Your Dive Experience

Do you want to use your dive skills to work in a team and contribute to a global database about the status of reefs? Do you want to get an insight into coral reef monitoring? Are you interested in joining projects to explore new sites or simply seeing the dive sites you already know from a completely different perspective?

Become certified to conduct your own Reef Check surveys and take an active role in conserving your favourite coral reefs.

The four-day Reef Check EcoDiver course allows participants to learn all about the globally standardised Reef Check methodology as well as how to identify key indicator fish, invertebrates and substrates selected by Reef Check for global monitoring and conservation! Becoming a Reef Check EcoDiver will allow you to join the Reef Check monitoring team and assist with underwater surveys around the world.

Course Overview

Group numbers are kept small to ensure a more personal learning and dive experience (1-4 pax).

4-Day Program (includes six dives)

  • attend a series of classroom presentations which introduce you to the Reef Check survey methods (including identification workshops)
  • go on four dives to find and identify the fish, invertebrates and substrate discussed during the workshops
  • learn how to work in a team while using the Reef Check survey method
  • submit survey data and provide valid scientific information to researchers, scientists, and fellow conservationists
  • become a citizen scientist and be able to join Reef Check surveys anywhere in the world
