Conservation Initiatives

As divers we are lucky to be able to see first hand the wonders of the underwater world. Diving in Dahab means visiting one of the oldest and most diverse ecosystem on the planet: the coral reefs. Here at Scuba Seekers, we are passionate about our reefs and are committed to preserving our coral-rich backyard for future generations to enjoy.

Our mission is for our divers to swim away with a better understanding of the underwater world and what they, as individuals, can do to protect it. We believe the best way to achieve this is to provide eco-driven scuba diver training and to make meaningful marine conservation work accessible to divers of all experience levels.

GREEN FINS MEMBER

Green Fins is the only internationally recognized environmental standard for dive and snorkel operators, established through a partnership between UN Environment and The Reef-World Foundation.

Scuba Seekers is the first dive operator in Dahab to earn Green Fins membership and we have agreed to follow their Code of Conduct. In exchange, Green Fins help us to be up to date in sustainability and eco-driven practices, giving us annual assessment, training and feedback to help us to to reduce our environmental impact!

EDUCATION: REEF ECOLOGY PROGRAMS

At Scuba Seekers we have developed our own customized Conservation and Reef Ecology Programs. Through these specially-designed courses, certified divers can become personally involved in Red Sea conservation efforts and help us collect powerful data so we can provide effective solutions to the local threats facing Egypt’s coastal environment.

DOCUMENTING AND MONITORING

We are seekers that seek to create a new and better relationship between diving and the underwater world. It is critical for us to explore, observe and document the underwater environment in order to protect it from threats and to conserve it for the future. Currently, Scuba Seekers is documenting and submitting data into the following data bases:

REEF: VOLUNTEER FISH SURVEY PROJECT

We perform regular fish and reef surveys using scientific methods. All the valuable data we collect we share it with the scientific community by submitting it in the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) data base.

PROJECT BASELINE: ABU TALHA CANYON

We are recording the Abu Talha Canyon dive site and submitting it at the The Project Baseline database. All the photos, videos, and data logs collected will serve as a baseline against which future changes can be measured.

CLEANING OUR REEFS

Of all the threats that the ocean faces, the one that hits us the most as we see it on each and every dive, is marine debris. The oceans are filled with items that really do not belong there, from huge amounts of plastics, derelict fishing gear, cigarette buds, metals, rubber, paper, textiles and so much more.

Make your dives count by helping us clean up the trash that is already underwater.

We organise clean-up dives every monday as part of the Dive Against Debris initiative. This efforts not only reduce the debris on our dive sites, it also help us to survey and identify trends by collecting the data of the marine pollution.

640,000 tons of fishing gear gets lost or abandoned in the ocean each year. Ghost nets continue to fish and account for countless lives. We organise specialised Ghost Diving clean-ups in order to remove lost (ghost) fishing gear from the water.

PADI Scuba Diver

Learn to Dive in Dahab

The PADI Scuba Diver course requires less time than the PADI Open Water course, covering only the first three of five sections of knowledge development, the first three of five pool sessions, and the first two of four open water training dives.

All the course dive training will take place in the sea in one of Dahab’s shallow and sheltered dive sites (Lighthouse, Bannerfish Bay, South Oasis…).

This is a world recognized PADI qualification which will allow you to dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters with a PADI professional. A perfect course for those with limited time, and want to break into the wonderful world of diving; this course is available for 10 year old and upwards.

Upgrade to Open Water Diver

The PADI Scuba Diver certification can be upgraded to Open Water Diver at any time. You just need two days more to complete what it is missing from the course.
